February 2015 – AVON, CT, Drs. Tortland & Kozar have been chosen to be among a small handful of physicians in the country to begin using a new device to harvest stem cells from bone marrow. Harvesting stem cells from marrow depends very heavily on the technique used. Poor harvesting techniques result in a harvest that contains few actual stem cells. One of the drawbacks of current harvesting techniques is that the most effective approach involves penetrating the bone in multiple locations in order to maximize stem cell yields. The new device requires only one entry point and yet still yields stem cell counts that far surpass current harvesting techniques. Drs. Tortland & Kozar were chosen by the developer of this revolutionary new device because they are already recognized as leaders in the field of stem cell and regenerative medicine treatments for orthopedic conditions.
