December 6, 2015 – Denver, Dr. Tortland made history today by becoming the first person in the country to become board certified in Regenerative Medicine. He sat for the first-ever board certifying exam in Regenerative Medicine (stem cells, PRP, etc), offered by the American Academy & Board of Regenerative Medicine (www.AABRM.org).
Dr. Tortland was the first one of the group of 30 examinees to finish the exam, 20 minutes ahead of the next person. As a result, his exam was the first to be graded, and he passed. In fact, he had the highest score on the exam, scoring a full 10 points higher than the next person.
Regenerative Medicine is an exciting newly-emerging field exploring the science and clinical use of stem cells and biologics in the treatment of injury and disease. Dr. Tortland has been a leader and pioneer in this field since 2007 when he became the first person in the state of Connecticut to begin using PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for the treatment of sports injuries and painful musculoskeletal conditions. he then became the first person in CT to begin offering adult stem cell treatments in 2008, and the use of fat harvesting and lipoaspiration and lipoinjection in 2009. Few practitioners in country have been using these techniques longer than, or have as much experience as, Dr. Tortland.
