Dr. Tortland was among a group of elite instructors teaching at a national musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK US) course.
The course, sponsored by MSKUS (www.MSKUS.com), was held at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Ft Worth Nov. 10-11, and hosted 30 physicians from around the country. The goal of the course was to teach physicians how to perform
ultrasound guided injections for orthopedic, neurologic, and musculoskeletal conditions. Attendees practiced performing ultrasound guided injections on human cadavers.
Studies have shown that the accuracy of injections performed “blind” (without any type of image guidance) is actually very poor, even when performed by experienced physicians. The proper use of ultrasound dramatically increases the accuracy, safety, and efficacy of injections. This is particularly important when injecting expensive products such as stem cells and PRP.
Dr. Tortland has been teaching MSK US since 2009 and is considered one of the country’s top instructors.
